‘It’s not fair’: Uni student marked down for not including Acknowledgement of Country speaks out

Peter Fegan

A 4BC listener has revealed that her daughter, who is studying Diversity, Crime and Justice, lost marks for not including an Acknowledgement of Country in an assessment.

The student told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “I [felt] quite annoyed because I go off the criteria sheet and whatever’s on there I address and the fact that it was not on a criteria sheet and I still got marked down for it.”

“That’s pretty annoying, especially since I’m paying 60 grand for this degree.”

“It’s really not fair,” she said.

Her mother declared, “It’s actually bullying. It does feel quite threatening, and it needs to be stamped out, so that’s why I was speaking up about it.”
