Liquor regulators target ‘fun’ premixed drinks
Liquor and Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) is considering new draft guidelines that could ban premixed alcoholic beverages deemed “undesirable” for being too sweet, fruity, or tasty.
Flavored vodka, alcoholic ginger beer, and bourbon mixed with cola are among the products in the spotlight, particularly those with “confectionary or dessert-based” flavors or soft drink collaborations that mask the taste of alcohol.
While aimed at reducing underage appeal, the proposed rules could impact drinks popular with legal consumers.
Mike is joined by Libertarian MP John Ruddick who slams the guidelines, calling them “the nanny state gone mad” for targeting properly labeled drinks based solely on their sweetness.
