MG brand on the move with new HS SUV and five core model lines
Last week MG previewed its new mid-sized 1.5-litre turbo seven-speed auto HS front-wheel drive SUV – a model that should further accelerate growth of the now Chinese-owned MG brand. MG in its 95th year may be best known for sports car heritage but moving forward will have a more broad-based product portfolio. Local MD Peter Ciao suggests MG will have five core model lines – at the moment its big sellers are the ZS SUV and small MG3 hatchback. The mid-sized HS SUV will be expanded with a 2.0-litre turbo all-wheel-drive variant and a possible plug-in hybrid model while by 2022 they’ll be a Toyota Corolla competitor plus a new generation MG6 flagship – a sports sedan plus an all-electric E-Motion 2 + 2 Coupe that will reflect MG’s original sports values. As I explain tomorrow, the new MG HS SUV reflects a big lift in finish and features but at the same time delivers extraordinary value from 30,990 drive-away.
