New study links teen vaping to smoking surge

Clinton Maynard

Clinton is joined by Anita Dessaix, Chair of the Cancer Council’s Public Health Committee and co-author of new vaping research published yesterday in a leading public health journal.

The study reveals that Australian teenagers who have vaped are significantly more likely to progress to smoking, with the youngest adolescents being at the highest risk.

Health experts warn this serves as a stark reminder for state, territory, and federal governments to collaborate in fully implementing and enforcing Australia’s new vaping reforms to protect young people.

The study, published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health, analyzed data from the Generation Vape survey, involving over 5,100 teenagers in a retrospective cohort analysis.
