“Nothing new”: Energex cuts cooling in South East Queensland households

Dean Miller

Earlier this month, more than 8300 households across Logan and Ipswich had their cooling function turned off remotely by Energex.

Energex has called these “PeakSmart events,” which residents can opt-in and out of.

Energex Spokesperson Danny Donald told Dean Miller on Summer Breakfast, “What happens on really heavy load days…we can signal airconditioners, people with their pool pumps, and also hot water systems, we’ll signal to wind them back a bit to smooth out the load.”

“I think at the end of the day, people would rather possibly have their aircon, or their pool pump, or their hot water system turned off for a few hours, rather than having outages,” Mr Donald continued.
