Office Christmas Party? Play it smart with 10 survival tips

Mike Jeffreys

Are you heading to a work Christmas party this year?  Mike Jeffreys speaks with Sarah Blake, Conflict Strategist and Mediator, to share essential etiquette tips for navigating the festive season without any workplace blunders.

Here’s Sarah’s top tips:
1. Don’t cut loose.
2. Now isn’t the time for honest feedback, keep things light.
3.  Personality clashes will still be there next year so don’t try to build your case or
bad mouth anyone.
4. Don’t get it on with another employee.
5. Don’t get it on with your manager. If you both have feelings then negotiate
transparently with HR.
6. If it’s a networking event, bring a small thank you for the host.
7. Have an excuse ready for unwelcome advances – “sorry, I just want to catch up
with everyone…”
8. Find someone to have your back.
9. If something makes you uncomfortable, speak up, your workplace has a
responsibility to provide safe environments.
10. Don’t wing it, know how much you want to drink, when you want to leave and
how you’re getting home.
