One in three blind pedestrians have collided with an electric vehicle
For many, the lack of noise made by electric vehicles is considered one of the positives of the transition away from petrol cars.
But its a different story for the visually impaired. Research from Monash University found that one in three blind or low vision pedestrians reported a collision or near-collision with an electric vehicle.
Chris Edwards from Vision Australia met yesterday with senior members of the federal government to discuss mandating the use of Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems in electric vehicles, technology that’s already being used in places like the EU.
