Pipe bands threatened to be dropped from ANZAC Day march for ‘logistical’ reasons

For over 80 years, numerous pipe bands have played their part in the ANZAC Day marching parade.

But this year, the local RSL and ANZAC Day Parade Committee have made a decision which threatens the presence of pipe bands at the parade.

Queensland Branch of Pipe Bands Australia Chair Nick Tomkins told Luke Bradnam on 4BC Breakfast, “From our perspective, the organiser’s not able to give a reason.”

“He’s just claiming logistics, which we don’t really accept as a reason.”

“The motto for the Brisbane Anzac Day march is everyone’s welcome, but it seems that if you’re a pipe band and you’re not one of his favourites, then it’s not really welcome.”

“So, we think that it’s a real personal issue that he doesn’t like pipe bands,” Mr Tomkins said.
