Queensland magistrate courts ‘in a state of crisis’
The Queensland Law Society has seized on a Productivity Commission report that finds the state has the largest backlog of criminal cases in the country.
The report says magistrates courts have a backlog of more than 6,200 criminal cases that are more than a year old.
Law Society President Bill Potts tells Mark magistrate numbers need to be bolstered so that criminals and victims can have their day in court because ‘justice delayed is justice denied.’
