Queensland Police Union pushing for DV to become stand-alone criminal offence
The Queensland Police Union is calling for domestic violence to become a stand-alone criminal offence due to flaws in the current system.
Queensland Police Union President Shane Prior told Shane Doherty on 4BC Summer Drive, “It is ludicrous as a community that we accept that the first hits for free.”
“The long and short of it is our police that go to these very challenging situations every single day, if there is not a application or a protection order in place, police cannot take action unless the aggrieved or the victim in that instance wants police to take action.”
“Now, I don’t know about you, but DV is a crime every single time and it’s about time that we started treating this seriously and turn this into an offence.”
Mr Prior provided details on the incident at Annerley this morning, involving two police officers being shot.
