‘Really confronting’: Gender-based violence out of control at an all-time high

Peter Fegan

Gender-based violence continues to rise. Statistics show that a woman is intentionally killed by a partner or a family member every ten minutes.

QPS Assistant Commissioner Katherine Innes, head of the QPS Domestic Violence and Vulnerable Person Command, told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “taking over this role only in the last three weeks and digging into our calls for service and the reality of what this is, is really quite confronting.”

“It’s interesting because my background is in crime and I think sometimes people think domestic violence is something different to crime, but it’s homicide, assault, rape, kidnapping, abduction, life-endangering acts, stalking, strangulation, it’s really serious behaviour,” she said.
