Renewed calls for live sheep trade to be reinstated

Exporters are welcoming the federal government’s acknowledgment of the contribution of the live trade industry to global animal welfare standards.

In its renewed National Statement on Animal Welfare, the government says Australia helps raise standards across the supply chain.

The statement highlights investments made by importers and the Vietnamese government to improve standards.

Rural Editor Emily Minney spoke to Australian Livestock Exporters Council Deputy Chief Executive Scott Kampo Harms about what the statement means for the industry, and a ban on the live exports of Sheep.
