Retail and hospitality draws youth away from tradie employment
Australia’s tradie shortage is becoming more apparent, raising questions about where young people are finding employment.
Paul Hillberg from Apprenticeships Queensland told Shane Doherty on Summer Drive, “We have seen a bit of a decline over the last five years in applicants.”
“Retail is sucking up a lot of the youth applicants or people who have newly left school… because there’s been a higher demand for retail or hospitality employees and they can earn a couple dollars more immediately,” Mr Hillberg continued.
