The new James Street: Developers set to revamp Stones Corner
The Brisbane City Council has approved a new project for Stones Corner Village, which will include apartments and retail spaces.
The design draws inspiration from James Street in Fortitude Valley, though many have suggested it may not be well-suited for Stones Corner.
UQ Urban Sociologist Dr Peter Walters told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, “I guess the developer will have done their homework, and they will see that this is feasible.”
“Stones Corner is an area which is changing demographically, it still is very diverse and there is a diverse socio-economic presence there.”
“I think 65% of people in that area are renters, which probably indicates they’re young people, maybe young professionals, and so I guess the developers saw some potential there for some, higher end type of retail offerings,” Dr Walters continued.
