Think twice before you gift a dog for Christmas

Mike Jeffreys

A dog is for life, not a returnable Christmas gift. Rescue organisations often see the downside of giving puppies as presents, as it doesn’t always lead to a happy ending.

Joining Mike is Kathy Kopellis McLeod, Dog Behaviour Expert, who shares that the weeks after Christmas can be heartbreaking.  Many ‘unwanted presents’ are abandoned as casually as thoughtless material gifts.

A puppy is a lifelong commitment, not an impulsive purchase fueled by holiday emotions. Consider the recipient’s readiness for the responsibility—ongoing costs, dedication, and love are non-negotiable.

If they’re not prepared, don’t gift a dog for Christmas.
