‘This is a good policy’: Coalition’s long-lunch policy to help ‘plumbers, electricians and hairdressers’

Bill McDonald

Last month, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said if elected, the Coalition would allow businesses to deduct for tax purposes up to $20,000 for business-related meal and entertainment expenses which would cost around $250 million.

However, the federal government has estimated the policy would cost be anywhere from $1.6 billion to $10 billion.

Federal member for Petrie and Shadow Assistant Treasurer Luke Howarth told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, “This is a good policy.”

“It’ll help people like plumbers, electricians, hairdressers, pest control businesses, real estate agents, and local cafes and restaurants and the staff that work in those businesses.”

“They’ll be the winners from this small policy that’ll help those people,” Luke Howarth said.
