Toyota previews the next generation Land Cruiser Prado 4WD due mid 2024
The Toyota LandCruiser Prado remains our top selling large 4WD under $70,000
despite the current generation model being around for quite some time. However,
Toyota recently previewed the next generation model due mid next year and its
represents an all-new design with mild hybrid power train, updated technology
and improved performance. Visually a much boxier design the new Prado sits on
a 60mm longer wheelbase and is 95 mm longer than before, the same length as
the current LandCruiser 300. It also sits on a newly developed ladder frame
chassis which Toyota claim is 50 per cent more rigid than the current model and
also gains improved wheel articulation. The new Prado will be offered with a mild
hybrid 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine with 500nm of torque and a 48-volt
starter/generator to help improve fuel consumption linked to a new 8-speed
automatic transmission. I’m David Berthon
