Weekends with Peter Fegan – Sunday, 21st April 2024

Luke Grant

On the show: Peter continues coverage on the safety of our truck drivers travelling from Brisbane to Cairns on the Bruce Highway, including the lack of rest stops and the quality of the road itself. Feegs speaks with QLD Trucking Association CEO Gary Mahon about this layered issue. Gary also sheds light on how the harsh fatigue regulations are putting the pressure on truckies, and what needs to be done to actually make a difference. Retired Australian Special Forces Commando and 20 year veteran Wes Hennessey weighs in on big issues of the week, including last weekend’s horrendous Bondi stabbing attack and his thoughts on the public being able to access larger, hunting-style knives. Peter and Wes also talk about the government’s recent defence investment and if he feels China is a growing threat to Australian security. Senator Bridget McKenzie has spoken out about Labor’s handling of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics during an inquiry this week. Senator McKenzie joins Feegs on the program to talk about what she sees as a massive failing to Australians as a sporting nation by the former QLD Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and what she thinks the current Premier Steven Miles should be doing to get these projects on track. For our Local Issues segment; we hear from Jamboree Heights resident Nathan Drummond who speaks about his own experiences with overhanging trees on his property which the council aren’t interested in taking responsibility for, which can have grave consequences if they aren’t taken care of. Following the pleas from Australian cricket great Allan Border asking the Australian Government to provide “just a little bit of help” for people living with Parkinson’s; CEO of Parkinson’s Australia Olivia Nassaris calls in to discuss this further. She explains what people with Parkinson’s experience in their day-to-day life and the moderate amount of funding they are asking the government for to try and make a difference in people’s lives. 4BC Sports Reporter Sam Leckie provides an extensive sports update, with Broncos Head Coach Kevin Walters calling in following their thumping of the Canberra Raiders last night. Finally, we look ahead to the coming week with your long-range weather forecast.
