‘Worth the amount of pain’: Former Super League CEO reflects on ARL war 30 years on

It has been 30 years since News Corp created the Super League in hopes of rivaling the Australian Rugby League.

The creation of the Super League led to battles over television rights, player contracts, and the future of rugby league in Australia.

Former Super League CEO John Ribot told Peter Psaltis on Wide World of Sports, “People have asked where our game is going, and you’d like to think that for all the disruptiveness of what was going on, definitely wasn’t good for our game.”

“So, hopefully, the price we paid it was worth the amount of pain we went through at the time.”

“Now, it’s just time to get on and keep building our game to be as great as what it is and keep being better and better,” Mr Ribot continued.
