Police cars targeted, side-swiped in frightening ordeal in Townsville

Police officers were allegedly targeted in Townsville by a group of offenders who chased and rammed police cars overnight.
9 News senior reporter Tim Arvier detailed the frightening ordeal.
“When police have driven past the stationary stolen vehicles, the cars decided to chase the police,” he told Neil Breen from Townsville.
“It was a police pursuit but the other way around.
“They immediately started targeting the police, they side swipe the cars repeatedly, damage to the back of one of the police vehicles.”
Police retreated to a nearby police station and one police officer was taken to hospital for observation.
Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd says while they’re still searching for the offenders, it’s believed they could be young offenders.
