‘Political football’: Public hospital funding in the spotlight as waitlists grow
Bill McDonald says crises in Australia’s public health system have become a “political football” again, off the back of revelations funding will be slashed to public hospitals.
He questioned if it was time for a national cabinet meeting on the issue of funding.
The Courier Mail reports there are more than 1300 patients are on a surgery wait list at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, according to a leaked email.
While on a national level, public hospital funding to the states and territories is forecast to be $2.4 billion less than forecast in May 2023.
“I don’t know what to make of this debacle anymore, no one seems to be taking any responsibility for it.”
