Households in south-east Queensland are being urged to shop around and switch energy providers, after new forecasts show a jump of around 23 per cent in the average residential bill.

In response, the state government has announced households and small businesses in SEQ will receive another rebate off their electricity bills.

Chris Ford from Compare the Market says the power is in the hands of customers.

“Switching can actually be very easily, it can happen in a couple of days,” he told Neil Breen.

“We now there’s offers available in south-east Queensland now that are 10 per cent less than the … current default market offer.

“The offers that are here today we are finding are gone tomorrow.”
