Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has told Ray Hadley that families seeking to build new homes in Queensland and the ACT are being priced out of the market due to the incoming push for accessibility requirements.
Dutton addressed this issue in response to concerns raised by listeners of Ray’s show,
“If you’re a young family building a house or you’ve decided to upgrade your house because your family has grown or for any other reason, the idea that people can afford an additional $40,000 on top of what is already an expensive project to build a house in Australia at the moment is just pricing people out of the market,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ray also discussed the matter with HIA QLD Executive Director Michael Roberts, who admitted that he would be surprised if most consumers were aware of the requirements. He said, “I would be lying if I said everyone in the industry knows about it… Very few consumers know this is coming.”
