The Money News team have a secret hobby after the show finishes and it’s not one you’d expect… they watch Professional Bull Riding.

So, when Professional Bull Riders (PBR) announced the PBR Global Cup will travel to Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena this weekend, Ross had to catch with the stars of the show.

Global CEO Sean Gleason, world-number-19 Guilherme Marchi and American Matt Triplett came into the studio to talk about the world’s fastest growing sport.

Gleason tells Ross it’s the greatest entertainment product anywhere on the planet and it’s growing in popularity.

“I am not the star, these guys are the stars, let’s be clear about that.

“Behind the scenes, I’m pulling the strings to try and make as much money for these guys as we possibly can.”

And it’s doing just that, with CBS on board in the states and Fox Sports broadcasting PBR events in Australia.

“We’re actually celebrating our 25th anniversary this year. We’ve paid out over $160 million to bull riders since the inception of the organisation.

“Here in Australia, I came over in 2006 and opened our offices here.

“We started in 2007 with five events and about $30,000 in prize money. Now we’re up to 20+ events and over a million bucks.”

35-year-old Brazilian Guilherme Marchi raked in $5.25 million last year and is a trailblazer for the sport, becoming the first man to ride more than 600 bulls.

Matt Triplett from Montana tells Ross it’s just as thrilling for fans as it is for riders.

“You’re strapping yourself to a 2,000-pound animal that you really don’t know what it’s going to do.”
