Queensland is just 12 days away from welcoming fully vaccinated, international tourists back to the Sunshine State after two years of crippling border closures.

The Queensland government has announced a multi-million dollar campaign to boost tourism across the state.

States and territories can still impose their own testing and quarantine requirements.

Flight Centre boss Graham Skroo Turner says most of the enquiries have come from the UK since it was announced Australia would re-open to fully vaccinated travellers.

“To get the international guys back here, it is going to take a more coordinated effort,” he told Scott Emerson.

He said Australia needs to target North America and Europe.

“We’re going to get a lot of traffic if we target it right, from North America … probably later Canada, UK and Europe.

“The main thing is they have no requirements, there’s no testing, ok you need to be double vaccinated generally to get in without any sort of quarantine, but there’s no testing requirements whatsoever.

“This is what Australia needs to do as well, we don’t worry about people being tested.”

He said Australia needs to take a page out of other countries, such as Britain, Greece, Portugal and Denmark, who have scrapped testing requirements.
