Brisbane’s population has ballooned by more than 58,000, the latest Census data shows.

But it’s the regions where Queensland has seen the most growth.

Demographics Group co-founder Simon Kuestenmacher says Queensland is the boom state in Australia since COVID-19 hit.

In south-east Queensland, the biggest growth was in Ipswich, with a 13 per cent growth in the past 5 years then Sunshine Coast, Logan and Moreton Bay regions.

He says it was possible for people to “widen the radius” around the city, and re-locate to the lifestyle locations, such as on the coast.

“That is very much the case from people for all over the country you have seen people from all states moving in to Queensland now really with the working from home movement everyone is able to act like a retiree on the housing market and pick their place of residence based on lifestyle factors, rather than just the availability of jobs.”
