Queensland Cricket’s ‘highest priority’ to find new home while Gabba revamp gets underway
The boss of Queensland Cricket says it’s the organisation’s highest priority to find a new home ahead of the Gabba’s $1 billion Olympic redevelopment.
There’s reports today Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds could be the temporary home of Big Bash games as well as the Brisbane Lions while the redevelopment gets underway.
Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson it’s a “credible option”.
He said while they applaud the Gabba revamp to make it an international world-class stadium, they need to find a home for four years, and it was a high priority.
“It is a real challenge of us, we rely heavily on fans packing the Gabba out in summer, it’s a really strong source of revenue for us, we do need to find a home that’s 20,000-25,000 fans during summer,” he told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.
But they are also looking at the opportunities to take Big Bash games into the regions such as Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.
