The Queensland Government will introduce legislation to dismiss Ipswich City Council when parliament resumes next month.

15 current and former Ipswich City councillors and officials are facing a total of 75 charges following a Crime and Corruption Commission probe.

On Monday, Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the government would introduce new legislation that would allow them to remove the council and bring in administrators.

“Ipswich councillors have made it plain they could drag this process out for years,” Minister Hinchliffe said today.

Late last month, the embattled council was issued a show cause notice to prove why it shouldn’t be sacked.

At the time, the council said it would submit further documentation showing it was getting on with the job.
