Queensland has changed its border entry rules. Here’s what you need to know

Queensland’s Police Commissioner has cleared up confusion over border pass requirements to enter the state.

The new border pass system went live just an hour before travellers were allowed to enter Queensland this morning.

It had the potential to leave many travellers in a bind, as previous restrictions required the pass to be displayed on their car dashboards if entering by road.

Commissioner Katarina Carroll told Mark Levy travellers are being allowed to show police their pass on their phone instead.

“We understand even people in caravans don’t have a printer, so just show your phone.

“But over the next few days, if you can prepare and plan ahead, try and print it off. But other than that, if you can’t, just show it on your phone as you go through.”

But Ms Carroll warned anyone who “blatantly disregards the law” will be penalised.

“We’ve turned a few people around this morning, others we’ve obviously assisted to make sure they get the right pass.

“We’ve unfortunately had a few of those as well and there can be fines of up to $4135 if people really purposefully provide the wrong information.”
