Queensland ‘in the dark’ for re-opening roadmap as NSW forges ahead
Queensland’s peak business body is pleading with the government to speed up a roadmap out of the pandemic.
In a surprise move today, NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet announced quarantine requirements will be scrapped from November 1 for those who are fully vaccinated.
It comes amid increasing pressure on the Queensland government to give certainty to businesses, tourism operators and Queenslanders for a date to be set to reopen ahead of the Christmas holidays.
Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland’s policy and advocacy general manager, Amanda Rohan, said businesses and Queenslanders needed a “line of sight”.
“Today’s announcement really does indicate NSW has a firm view on re-opening their state,” she told Scott Emerson.
“We know they have also set really good targets in terms of re-opening their state internally, and they are well on their way to that.
“It really does put a shot across to the other states in terms of re-opening … we really are in the dark in terms of what it’s going to look like in Queensland.”
She said they needed to see what the plan was for Queensland.
“We need to get back in the game here, businesses are absolutely going to be on their knees at the back end of this year if they don’t have some confidence throughout the Christmas trading period.”
