Queensland MP pushes for new statue of Queen ahead of Platinum Jubilee

A new statue of Queen Elizabeth II would be commissioned for Queensland under a proposal tabled by an LNP MP.
It would be part of celebrations of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year.
Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie told Chris Smith while there’s already a statue at Government House, the public often doesn’t have access.
“A lot of the time at Government House, the gates are shut,” he said.
“I just think for such an inspiring woman, you know, 70 years’ service to the people of Australia and Queensland, … we should be honouring that.”
He expects the state government will ultimately find some way to commemorate the occasion.
“I suspect when the Queensland government does announce something to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, … all the other republican ministers will take credit for it.”
