Queensland tourism booming thanks to cruises
Queensland has seen a huge boost in tourism, thanks to cruises.
There’s been a 70 per cent increase in cruises visiting the Sunshine State in the last two years, adding $1.1 billion to the state economy.
Having just returned from a cruise, Chris Smith is a self-confessed cruise convert.
Tourism Minister Kate Jones tells Chris it’s “wonderful”.
“Cruises is one of the fastest growing segments of the tourism industry globally and it’s just wonderful that Queensland is really part of the boom.”
She says they’re currently working on upgrading the ports in Cairns.
“We hope to deliver up to 100 extra cruise ships every year.
“We are working with regional cities to grow the cruise capacity and the welcome areas of the ports to get more cruise ships here.”
