Queensland families flocked to some of the state’s most popular vacation spots over the weekend as school holidays got into full swing.

Places like Noosa, the Gold Coast and Yeppoon have been packed out in the last few days.

With millions of Australians locked out of the sunshine state, the industry is relying on locals to fill the void.

CEO of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, Daniel Gschwind said it was a step in the right direction, but not quite enough.

“Queenslanders to everyone’s relief, are exploring more of their own state,” he told Scott Emerson.

“It’s certainly better than it was … but a long way to go.”
