Rail extension would ‘steamroll’ residents’ views, Karen Andrews says
An MP has doubled down on concerns over a light rail extension that earned a rebuke from the Gold Coast mayor.
McPherson MP Karen Andrews is calling for community consultation on an extension of the rail that would run along the Gold Coast Highway.
Mayor Tom Tate expressed his disappointment in her position, describing Ms Andrews’s concerns as an “arrogant” backflip,
Speaking with Neil Breen, Ms Andrews didn’t budge on her position, insisting residents aren’t supportive of the project.
“The views of the residents who have been impacted has to be listened to and I don’t think that’s happened,” she said.
“I don’t believe any level of government … should just steamroll over the views of people who are going to be affected by this or any other issue.
“No one that I have spoken to has said reducing the Gold Coast Highway to one lane is a good idea.”
