12-year-old Malik has been calling Ray for several years now from his home at Yamba, on the NSW North Coast.

The young Parramatta Eels tragic has had a quiet school holidays so far, but that’s set to change with a trip to Bali next week.

Malik may have put his foot in it though and ruined a family surprise.

Malik, “We’re surprising our cousins.”

Ray, “Well, it’s not a surprise now!”

Malik, “They don’t listen, I don’t think…”

Ray, “You’d want to hope not, you’ve just ruined a very special surprise for your cousin!”

Since Malik will be missing over a week of school, Ray is setting his young fan some homework.

“I’d like to get a five-minute discourse on Balinese culture from you, so we know that you’ve been there and learned something.”
