Recommendations from QLD’s scathing DNA lab inquiry
An inquiry into the state-run forensics lab has been handed down, making more than 100 recommendations.
The commission of inquiry lead by retired judge Walter Sofronoff found that “serious” failures were happening inside the forensics lab.
Commissioner Walter Sofronoff saying the report makes for “horrible reading” and thousands of cases would need to be reviewed.
“We found some very, very disturbing and troubling things that were happening in the DNA laboratory,” he said.
The 520-page report includes 123 recommendations.
9News reporter Ebony Cavallaro detailed some of his recommendations.
“Some of the most astonishing findings as Commissioner Sofronoff claims himself, were that in for example sex assault cases, there was a six year period where certain thresholds of DNA tests were not conducted,” she told Jason Dasey, filling in on Brisbane Live.
