Farmers across western Queensland and northern New South Wales are celebrating following a heavy drenching of rain over the weekend.

North-west Queensland has received the most significant falls, with more expected in the coming days.

Areas near Cloncurry, Blackall, Innisfail and Cooper received more than 100mm, causing short-term flooding and damage but bringing much-needed relief.

There hasn’t been significant rainfall since Christmas, leaving dams at dangerously low levels.

Bill called Alan Jones from Brewarrina in northern New South Wales.

You can hear the relief in his voice after receiving almost 50mm.
