Two die after aircraft incident in Gympie region
Two men have died following an aircraft incident in the Gympie region involving an ultra-light plane and a glider.
Forensics teams are now on-scene and investigations are underway into the possibility of a mid-air collision between the two planes.
Both aircrafts had a single male occupant each.
It’s believed at least the glider left from a nearby gliders’ club.
The planes crash-landed in a nearby paddock.
Their identities of the two men are not yet known.
“So at about 2.45pm today there’s been incident there at the Gympie Airport, which has resulted in two aircraft have crashed in a paddock nearby, it’s very early in the investigation,” Inspector Brad Inskip said.
Inspector Inskip couldn’t confirm if the planes collided, but said there was evidence to appear that was the case.
He described it as a graphic scene and a tragic incident.
