Residents have to sign legal waiver before drinking their own tap water
It’s rare that Alan Jones is left speechless, but this story has him utterly stunned.
“I’m sorry, I’m not normally lost for words. I find this astonishing.”
Over 100 residents living just north of Dungog in the NSW Hunter region have been directed to sign a legal document by Hunter Water saying they won’t drink their household water.
Locals have told Alan the contract asks residents to guarantee they won’t sue Hunter Water if they become ill after drinking the water supplied to their home.
Upper Hunter candidate for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party John Preston tells Alan the water in the area is undrinkable and the actions of the company are “beyond belief”.
“Hunter Water, rather than fulfilling their legal obligations, they want to document these guys off their books.”
John is calling on Regional Water Minister Niall Blair and Premier Gladys Berejiklian to step in and guarantee residents safe drinking water.
“It has been an utter disgrace, Alan. And I’ll be meeting with Jim Bentley the Chief Executive of Hunter Water on Wednesday.”
