Resources Minister ‘not against nuclear’ but insists coal is the short-term solution
The federal resources minister says he’s not opposed to nuclear power but insists coal and gas power is Australia’s short-term future.
Senator Matt Canavan tells Alan Jones Australia’s energy makeup is “a simple issue”.
“What is morally right for businesses in our country is that we use our natural resources, our God-given resources.
“To create cheap and affordable energy so people can go about their business and pay their bills.”
When questioned on why we aren’t taking advantage of our vast uranium resources, Minister Canavan admitted he’s “not against nuclear” power.
“But, nuclear is very expensive,” he says.
“The biggest problem right now in Australian energy policy is the high price.
“So nuclear is not going to help with that in the short term.”
