Retailers prepare for Eagle Street precinct closure for $2.1b revamp
Restauranteurs in the iconic Eagle Street Pier dining precinct are preparing to shut up shop next month when the $2.1 billion, multi-year development begins.
A few favourites including George’s Paragon, Mr and Mrs G’s Riverbar, Jade Buddha and Italian institution Coppa Spuntino will have to vacate by 25 July.
Co-owner of Coppa Spuntino, Bonnie Shearston, says she only just back from overseas 8 weeks ago.
While it was gutting, she says retailers were prepared for the inevitable.
They are looking at different opportunities for re-location.
“I think everyone is in the same boat, we are all super sad, I can’t speak for everyone but I do think this development has been a long time coming, and it’s necessary,” she told Scott Emerson.
“Eagle Street Pier is great and there has been a new lease on life brought through with all these new restaurants that have been here in the last 18 months.”
