Revealed | Independent stadium certifier disproves ‘misinformed’ claims by Michael Daley
The independent building certifier who conducted a fire safety audit at Allianz Stadium says Michael Daley is “mistaken and misinformed” about the issue.
After hearing the Opposition leader’s explosive interview on Tuesday, Director of Blackett, Maguire and Goldsmith, David Blackett, has contacted Alan Jones.
In an email he has allowed 2GB to publish, Mr Blackett says he “supports the government’s decision to demolish the current Allianz Stadium”.
He has clarified a number of points, confirming the stadium never had a fire safety system installed and that it “did not have a sprinkler system removed under the cover of darkness”.
In trying to back out of his lie during an interview with the ABC, Michael Daley only dug himself a deeper hole.
As uncovered by Ben Fordham, the Opposition leader claimed he was talking about the field sprinklers being ripped out under the cover of darkness, not the fire sprinklers.
But the SCG Trust has confirmed all field sprinklers remain in the ground at Allianz Stadium.
Mr Blackett was also in charge of a compliance audit of the heritage stands at the SCG.
He says Michael Daley “is mistaken and misinformed on a number of issues – including his comparison to the Ladies & Members Stands at the SCG.”
Contrary to what the Opposition leader claimed in Tuesday’s interview, those stands both have fire safety systems, including sprinklers and smoke detection systems, “far more superior than the former Allianz Stadium”.
Alan has also spoken to an expert security consultant who explains just how dangerous the stadium had become.
He speaks of the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster, where 96 people were killed, and explains how easily a crowd can become out of control.
