Robbie Katter slams PM’s ‘ignorant’ green-light of Hells Gate Dam

The Prime Minister will today announce funding of $5.4 billion for what will become the state’s biggest dam.

Hells Gate Dam would cover a 60,000 hectare irrigation area in North Queensland and is expected a $6 billion economic and jobs boom.

Bob Katter has been a strong push for the project, which was first proposed more than eight decades ago, to be green-lit.

But Katter’s Australian Party State Leader Robbie Katter told Neil Breen the project will miss the mark.

“I hate being negative all the time when it comes to government,” he confessed.

“I like the fact that they put money towards it, that’s great, but it would really amaze people when you’re in the world of politics just how ignorant people are when they talk about issues.

“The proposal that’s tabled at the moment will kill the Bradfield Scheme forever.

“They’re funding to build a dam that’s not big enough to raise the water high enough to put pressure to send it across the Great Dividing Range, onto the black soil plains.”
