Roger Federer announces retirement after 24-year career
Rodger Federer is stepping away from his tennis career after 24 years playing at an elite level.
He’s leaving professional tennis with 20 grand slam titles to his name and more than 1500 matches under his belt.
In a post to his social media pages, the Swiss star he never imagined he’d have such a good run in the game.
“As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries,” he wrote.
“I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits and its message to me lately has been clear.”
