Schoolies security breach caused by wristband black market
The security of Schoolies celebrations is being called into question after partygoers were busted breaking the rules.
Schoolies have been caught selling their wristbands for as much as $200 in Facebook groups in what is considered a security breach.
The wristbands are used as passes to get into the Safer Schoolies precinct and gated hub on the beach at Surfers Paradise.
They can only be acquired legitimately by school-leavers who present identification on pick-up at the start of the week.
Today reporter Mia Glover told Laurel, Gary & Mark tampered wristbands won’t be accepted for entry into the precinct.
“A lot of the Schoolies that I’ve actually seen this morning, and yes they haven’t slept, they did tell me the wristbands are so tight on their wrists, they’re going to find it impossible to get them off without cutting them,” Today reporter Mia Glover told Laurel, Gary & Mark.
“So it is really interesting to see. I wonder how they’re getting them off and how delicately, or how little their hands are, to try and get them off their wrists as well!”
