It’s not just the footy players who will go head-to-head in state-based competition this week – Queensland and NSW’s top piemakers are set to get in on the action too!

For this year’s series, Queensland’s very own Beefy’s Pies is taking on NSW’s Glenorie Bakery in the Harvey Norman Pie of Origin.

Widely tipped as two of Australia’s greatest bakeries, the venues will be raising money for each state’s children’s hospital.

Speaking with Beefy’s Pies owner Mark Hobbs this afternoon, Scott Emerson was ready to get the rivalry cooking ahead of the main event on Wednesday.

Scott Emerson: “Give me your pitch now; you’ve just told me what makes a good Queensland pie, why is a pie from south of the border a lesser pie?”

Mark Hobbs: [laughs] “Um, look – a good question! I can only talk about our pie, obviously, and Rob from Glenorie Bakery will talk very highly about his pie…”

Scott Emerson: “Yes, but we don’t believe him! That’s the whole point! We don’t believe Rob from Glenorie Bakery!”
