Scott Morrison takes aim at businesses who boycott the mining industry
In his address to a Queensland mining conference, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has promised to legislate against companies who bow to pressure from climate activists.
Banks, engineering firms, and even small contractors are among those under scrutiny, says Macquarie Media political reporter Harry Spicer.
“If you had any doubt about the federal government’s support for the mining industry, it would be firmly extinguished if you’ve been listening to this speech.”
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has already rebuffed Mr Morrison’s comments, questioning how such a crackdown could be possible.
Mr Morrison says protest groups such as Extinction Rebellion, who have ground cities to a halt multiple times in recent months, are “self-indulgent and selfish”.
