A man has died while scuba diving at popular Byron Bay beach on Tuesday.

At about midday, emergency services were called to The Pass after a diver was pulled from the water unconscious.

Members of the public began CPR on the 37-year-old man before paramedics arrived.

Despite their best efforts, he died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified but a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The Pass is an idyllic stretch of beach between Clarkes Beach and Wategos in Byron Bay.
