Sea World crash: Pilot may not have made taxiing call

Transport investigators will look at visibility and radio calls as they piece together what lead to a deadly helicopter collision on the Gold Coast.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has handed down its preliminary report into the crash that killed pilot Ash Jenkinson, British couple Ron and Diane Hughes, and Sydney mother Vanessa Tadros at the Broadwater on January 2.

It is yet to be determined whether Mr Jenkinson made a taxiing call before take-off but the pilot of the other aircraft, Michael James, said he does not recall hearing one.

The early report doesn’t contain any findings.

“This is not the end of this, there is still at least two years of an open investigation to continue,” 9News senior reporter Peter Fegan told Sofie Formica.
