Search for Dugald River miners continues as rescuers locate ute
A desperate rescue mission to free two trapped miners after a ground collapse in north-west Queensland is continuing this morning.
The miners’ ute fell into a pit at the Dugald River mine near Cloncurry when the ground underneath a 30-tonne drilling rig collapsed, trapping them 125 metres underground.
The operator of the rig has been rescued and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Today reporter Andrea Crothers told Laurel & Mark underground drones have pinpointed the location of the ute but rescuers haven’t been able to make radio contact.
“So far, they are still planning how to access that,” she said. “Believing that it’s underneath rubble, it’s an incredibly delicate mission and grave fears are held for the fate of those two miners.”
